in adventure mode, would throwing individual units of wine, then throwing a fireball(mod of some sort, ball is solid) cause any effect different then hitting them with the ball itself? how would this work in barrel fulls?

Depending on how accurate the throw is and how items interact, you may get wine on the fireball item, which will then boil.  I'm not sure how well it would work in practice.

so if the wine gets the enemy/ they step on it, would it burn their feet?

I don't really know, sorry.  I'm not sure how contaminants and heat and fire react in that context.

you could create a container then use container as a preserved reagent for the wine and fire ball
then throw the container once the fireball is added(the fireball should heat up once it hits the ground.
but boiling things unless loaded with a virus that quickly melts any who is in the blast won't do enough damage as a good use. unless there a way to make the container stick/impale when hit with it. leaving the victim to get blasted with the fumes for longer period of time.
