Volcanoes without extreme cliffs?
« on: August 01, 2010, 04:17:10 am »

I've genned 6 worlds with high volcanism and minimum 30-40 volcanoes, and all the best spots have extreme cliffs.

Several of these worlds were with the aid of PerfectWorld DF but the same thing happened with the default settings (edited for volcanoes)

Does anyone have any seeds for 31.12? Or even better, advice on hold to generate flatter worlds?
Flux isn't too important, but it would be fantastic.

And lastly, how do I retrieve a seed from an old 31.06 world? I had the perfect spot in that. :(

Thanks :)

You have a 0 in 2 chance of finding what you are looking for. volcanoes are very high up. Check the save's raws for the seed.

I once embarked on a volcano with a large plateau at the top. So it is possible but very uncommon.

The map i wanted to find the seed for is about 50% flat at the base of a mountain volcano, has a lot of chalk and other precious metals. So I was pretty pleased with it.

I still can't find the seed though. It loads fine and all :/

I gen worlds  with 200 volcanoes (max i think) then look for one with a big flat spot at the bottom, I set it up so I will start somewhere on the flat spot then back my fort into the cliffs.  Good for defence and early magma access.  also multiple biomes

Do you change anything other than the minimum number of volcanoes? Like volcanism or anything?

And I just realised I spelt the topic voncano....

When you're using PerfectWorldDF, in the Volcanism tab try using a really high weight for your noise control field. That worked pretty well for me.

Here's my PWDF gen. "Shadmalcuggan", the last one in the file (and the only unique one), has tons of deserts with flux and volcanoes, and some other sites as well. All four kinds of civilisation are present. Few rivers, though.

Well, this is awkward. It's too long to be posted. Any upload sites I could use?

Should be fine to put it in pregenerated worlds

Ahh, I found it at last.
I can upload the world gen parameters too if anyone's interested.
It's a good location with easy access to magma, flux, water and precious metals and a nice flat ground to embark on. I generally prefer Untamed Wilds and marble flux, but beggars can't be choosers. :P

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Khan, that looks like an interesting map. It'll be next on my list once this one fails =P
s20dan, I had trouble finding some flatland volcanoes on the map you uploaded:

I dont mess with the volcanism but I should, the few times I have ive quit trying to gen after 70 failed worlds, but that was a while ago and i was thowing extreme numbers at it.  200 volcanoes usually gets me 3 or 4 decent fort sites with nice big flat areas, magma pipe, nice cliff to back the fort into and in a rough biome.  Having the world gen stop at 300 years is good too if you are just looking for the perfect site.

If anyone who actually knows about how to fiddle with the volcanism and stuff would post something it would be good.
