Torture
« on: August 01, 2010, 06:20:33 pm »

So my latest fort, Boltsbrains, had an ambush that it was simply not prepared for (4 groups of lashers, maceman, swordsman, and archers). Most of them got caught in cages but I lost a whole bunch of dwarves, including the majority of the military, trying to kill the rest. I rather liked this embark so I am not too happy with these aggressive gobbos, fortunately they brought their general with them and he was one of the first to get caught in the cages.

Which brings to my point... I'd like to make him see the error of his ways the only way I expect him to understand... pain and suffering. I want to injure him as much as possible without killing him. What would be the best method to achieve this? A hallway with weak weapon traps followed by cages?

Keep in mind I want to recapture him so I can move him around in order to make him watch his army die in various ways.

Might as well kill them.

Or put all his soliders in a room, fill it with water, and wait for winter for them all to freeze. Make sure the general can see.

Then after all the ice and water is gone put the general back in the room.

What I do with guys I want to kill slowly is drop them from higher and higher heights, the place they land in would have an open door, but there would be a cage trap in the way, so they get re-captured.

I'd put him in a room with a floor grate and two pipes leading into it from above. One delivering unpressurized magma, the other delivering water.

Then I'd alternate between burning and wet  ;D

I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!

A spike trap with a single base-quality menacing wooden / green glass spike in a 1x1 room surrounded by clear glass windows suspended over the ground.

A ballista, firing normal wooden bolts. Because ballistae have been pretty badly nerfed since 40d(wooden ballistae bolts literally disintergrated creatures and trees), it probably won't do much damage, especially if he's got his armor still on. Worst you'll probably do is lodge one of those three-tile-wide bolts in his eye.

... Yes, the hugs are for everyone.  No stabbing, though.  Just hugs.

If you haven't already, partially remove his armor, leaving the helmet and breastplate. Then set him loose in a room with blunt weapons, made from a material that will damage his unarmored parts but lower than his armor material. That should break his legs/feet/hands, etc and it probably wouldn't be as lethal. Then of course, the cage trap at the end to recapture.

After hes caged, make sure to transfer him somewhere where he can be displayed and spit on like the war trophy he is... main hallway, dining room, whatever you think is best.  Either just use the cage or use a chain, whichever you prefer.

Don't use a chain - your dwarves will panic in terror if he isn't caged.

I'd either go with Chinese magma torture, or Urist Imiknorris' idea with the wooden spikes. If he still has armor, I'm pretty sure the spikes can't kill him, just constantly stab his unarmored parts. Make sure you use a glass holding cell to contain him, just for show. I don't think the Dwarves will run away if he's on the other side of a glass wall, but I could be wrong.

Think of it like Sim City, except with rival mayors that seek to destroy your citizens by arming legions of homeless people and sending them to attack you.
