They are training, but not learning.

I've got a squad of 10 set to train all the time, with a proficient teacher axedwarf I brought with me.

And it's been a year and they are mostly at novice. :(

They spar and go to demonstrations, but they don't seem to be learning. Is there some kind of curve where they start to rocket up in skills after they build a few levels in student or observer for a year or two or am I doing something wrong?
