I miss when TLC was actually about learning, and not home fucking make overs and gardening. I miss Great Castles of Europe. I miss the old Connections with James Burke, that was both interesting and written, and delivered at higher than a high school level. I like Richard Hammond....on Top Gear. In no way does his show give me the same joy that Richard Burke's Connections did.

History Channel....I have a love/hate relationship with it. It's docs are less rigorous, and written for popular audiences. I've detected some bias in a lot of their war docs (like the 4th of July series that featured half the cast from Fox News talking about how America is great), since they're written entirely for Americans. And they like to pander to the hysteria of the day: 2012, killer asteroids, solar flares, conspiracy theories, crime, gang and prison shows, drug shows and Middle East concerns. I enjoy a lot of History Channel programming, but it's the junk food equivalent of documentaries.

I watch a ton of Nat Geo now, especially in the wee hours of the morning. They have the best documentaries. They go places no one else does. (Like the Nat Geo Doc Inside North Korea....holy shit.) They seem to have less of an agenda as well.

I believe that TLC stands for Toddlers, Little people, and Cake.

I remember when TLC was 24/7 power tools, engineering and robot fights.
Speaking of robot fights. Battlebots on Comedy Central was a fun watch. And looking back, we had a few mythbusters competeing in there as well. Grant with Dead Blow (A little bot that pecked it's opponents incapacitated; often reused for other myths), and Jamie's BioHazard (which won a good few seasons, being an old wedge-type with a hydraulic catapult, which can operate upside-down and flip itself back upright).

I wonder, are there any more robot fighting shows on anymore, or was it just a good phase that didn't last?

Didn't Battlebots used to be on G4? I think I remember watching it there.

I think G4 had the one that was on TLC. Battlebots was originally on Comedy Central.

EDIT:
Remembering the traps spread throughout, it gives me some DF arena ideas.

They became self-aware, murdered the producers, and went on to turn out some hit reality TV shows.
