No nobles?

I can't appoint any nobles - is this a bug? All my dwarves died save one, then a miraculous wave of migrants saved the fortress as he slowly descended into madness...but we are doomed if I can't appoint a militia captain -_-

I think this is a bug; if your Expedition Leader is killed, you cannot assign new nobles. I'm not sure which version your playing, or if it has been fixed, though.

It should have been fixed a looong time ago. Are you playing .12? As I recall, they're supposed to hold elections; can't remember if this is sometime later or immediately after the death.
