Bridges are completely reliable so long as you're not trying to crush it with a bridge. A closed drawbridge functions just like a wall.

Doors and floodgates are easily smashed to bits. However a door goes well combined with drawbridges. I usually use a drawbridge right in front of a door. I can first seal the door to cut off dwarven traffic, and then raise the drawbridge. This ensures that no dwarves are crushed, as I can have the door locked instantly at any time.

Hey nice trick about the door next to the bridge, everytime i use my bridges its the lottery and i'm asking who will win this time, but really i don't use them much anymore.

I think i'll try with bridge first and see what happen.

I used floodgates because you don't need a wall next to them like for doors, so you can just make a small wall of floodgates, all next to each others, and have them all open by the same lever. So i can have a wide entry to my cavern i can lock if i got one of those dwarf spam for some food lost in the cavern he can't path to.
