Actually due to the leak HL2 was delayed for almost a year.

EDIT: Though that was a massive leak

I remember how Newell announced a September release like during the E3 where they first showed it. And then with the leak it turned out it was nowhere near ready for it? Like he was talking shit during E3? I even recall reading an article on the leak where some Valve guy confirmed that they weren't ready for release back then and it was a mistake to claim otherwise.

So I don't think the initial delay was actually leak-induced.

Yeah, that's the impression I always got, that it was just a convenient excuse. I can't figure out why a leak should matter to the release date at all.
