I'm at a fortress with 16 members, and when fall comes, only parts of the river freeze!
Can someone tell me what's going on here?

Maybe only those parts that freeze are considered to be in a Temperate or colder biome, and the rest is Warm or hotter. It could happen, given the way biomes are set up.

Your river crosses multiple biomes, one or more of which do not freeze in winter. The game has no concept of an "average" temperature range between biomes.

EDIT: ^I've had temperate biomes that freeze halfway through fall, others that never freeze. There are different gradients of temperate and cold biomes. Others too, but it only matters for those two.

well my little brook froze up the first time this winter- after 9 years in the fortress...

now in mid-winter only have of its thawed.

i managed to dam it though, im happy
