Is this true? It might be possible for me to get a few games on the PS3 for cheaper than here in Canada (maybe, maybe not), but I had always assumed it wasn't an opportunity because of region locking.

No region locking. And you're in the same region as the US anyway which has the cheapest games. But not by all that much. I guess if the shipping rates are low it might be worth it. Or if you're driving through a state with no taxes by chance.

The PS3 itself doesn't have region locking, but I think some games multiplayer functionality is locked to the region it's from. Buy a PAL game and you have to play on PAL servers. Dunno if this is true for all games though.

The reason I was concerned is because I can get them from Dubai.

EDIT: Probably not worth it, though. Apparently, the mall there is selling Red Dead Redemption for 269 Dirhams, or about $75 CAD.

Dubai is never going to be cheaper, just by sheer cost of shipping, even if their games were lower priced by like $40

Actually, they sell NTSC games all over the place... if you know where to look. There is a place in Abu Dhabi that I know of.

Edit: Speaking of, how long are you going to be here (yes, I'm back in the UAE for now) for? If it's not going to be too long, don't bother.

Oh, and some places do have it cheaper, around the 220 Dh mark. all about where you buy.

Shipping is free. My Dad is returning from his posting at the SECRET BASE soon. I'm not there myself. He bought my mom a bunch of purses and stuff, and they rave about how cheap things. He's bringing me back a new messenger bag and an imitation iPhone.

I'm too poor for DLC anyways, so if he can find anything cheaply it won't matter. Mostly I'm trying to get Heavy Rain and a FIFA Soccer Game (I'm not picky about whether I get 2010 or South Africa World Cup, though 2010 might be better so I can play as Barcelona and pwn the Spanish League). Maybe Red Dead Redemption, but it's low on my priority list, and I probably won't get so much time to play these once the university term starts again in the Fall.

Though, I'm taking CS100, which is almost like not taking a fifth course.

Don't waste your money on heavy rain. I fully regret buying it. It wasn't fun to play and I guessed the killer about an hour in. If you can rent it. The story is entertaining at least.
