Fortification bug?
« on: June 30, 2010, 09:20:29 pm »

While building a tower, I noticed you could b-C-walls out of stone, then carve a fortification out of it and poof. More stone. Bug?

Carving fortifications should not produce stone...

And I just went and replicated the scenario in the OP and there was no mystery stone created after carving said fortification into said constructed wall.

Maybe the constructed wall had a loose stone on top of it, and when changed to a fortification the stone fell down?  Fortifications don't have floors above them.

Only constructed fortifications lack floors above them - carved fortifications, even those carved from constructed walls, retain the floor above them.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

There was a bug reported in 40d where you could simultaneously designate a constructed wall for deconstruction and carving into fortifications, resulting (if the dwarves did it with the right timing) in both constructed fortifications and the original stone back.  I don't know if this bug has been fixed, and didn't put much effort into testing or trying to reproduce it.
