Just get through your problems at university.  When you have more free time again, I'll throw you back on the list.  Thanks for doing the work to patch it.

No worries! Being in college myself, school problems are understandable. I'll get started on this tonight. Can't wait to see what's going on, but take as much time as you need for your journal of what occurred  :)

edit: oops. Just reread your post. So I'll be starting from where Zifnab left off? Fine with me... Let's see how these new material values treat our dwarves :D

my advice? get the water through a grate + floodgate, breach the magma, fill up the workshop area, cast obsidian in the opening

I'd be happy to take a turn, so long as it happens before the end of July. Also, if there are any free obsidian dwarves, could I get one named after me?

Grr! Well, not done with my turn yet. I've run into a crash twice now, both times while looking at the living area... It's rather annoying.

Edit: Besides the crashes, the fortress is doing alright. We have 42 dwarves now and an artifact ring was produced... It's only worth 9600 dwarfbucks though.

Edit Edit: Okay, many more crashes now... Can't quite pin it on anything in particular, but it's making it rather hard to play.

Just to clarify, which version of Dwarf Fort are we currently using. And if we aren't using 0.31.08, will we be upgrading?

ISoB, It might be 31.07. It crashes on loo(k) + Enter.

It's 0.31.06, which leaves me pretty confused as to the cause. Wasn't able to play any yesterday, and the crashes have been making me lose months at a time occasionally, so I'm still in the month of Felsite (late spring) with only a day to go until my week is up. Should I upload and let someone with a bit better knowledge on bugs/updating DF take a look? I do have a journal for everything i've done to this point (which I've had to edit numerous times as progress got wiped).

Try updating to 31.08. I don't think anyone would mind too much if we gave you till Friday.

Okay, its updated now. I"ll give it a go in a bit... Really hoping I can make it through the year this time... Maybe some of my "mini-projects" will actually get finished :)

I'm currently trying to get the smithy up and running, as well as fortify our entrance a bit...

OHOH! Seal us in! I love miasma! And then... I can dig a small hole out and block it up with a floodgate, which I will then link up to a lever I put in a tower of soap! Yay!

My idea is to extend a tower up from the entrance, then fill the big hole with lava. A bridge (probably a pair of bridges due to the distance) will connect the tower to the outside. It's probably going to take longer than I have, especially due to the huge amount of crap we have piled up in that hole right now (mostly trade goods and wood...) that will need to be moved. There's a ton of security risks in the fort now, especially at the surface. The lower levels are pretty tight, but when I start up the smithy there could be problems (especially since our uninvited guest hangs out on that level).

Edit: Okay... So crashes still not fixed. Not moments after I unpause I get a crash, without me doing anything. Ideas?

Okay, so the crashes are making it pretty much unplayable for me. I've uploaded my save >>HERE<< (64mb save), though I've only made it to the third month. I'm completely at a loss as to the cause, but it's not letting me play more than a minute before it crashes... We might need to savescum back to where Zifnab left off... While I'm sure Deon didn't mean to, I feel that something went wrong in the patching progress. I'll post a write up of what happened in my time, if we're going to continue where I left off.
