Snow field?
« on: June 25, 2010, 11:12:33 am »

Hi there,

I'm trying adventure mode again and have found something strange on my way through the woods... My starting area was covered by snow but after running around for some time the snow area suddenly ended. And that in a perfectly straight line (see screenshot). Furthermore other areas which were previously covered by snow had turned lush and green. But an area of perfect rectengular shape remains snowcapped. How does this happen?

Thanks

//edit: ah here's another one to show you that it is in fact a rectangle:

//edit: it disappeared after I had walked away far enough for it to be scrolled out of view. Another question regarding this: is it a feature or a bug that discovered parts of the map disappear again when they scroll out of view?

The game only saves what you've seen in sites like towns, caves, etc. Otherwise, it generates the area when you get there.

I've seen this. My world is quite cold outside of the equator, but I don't know what causes this. The snow just seems to form a perfect square and melt away. Must just be a strange tempature thing.

I think having cold and temperate embark tiles next to each other causes that.

I did something with Dwarf companion, in 40d, and a 3x3 area of embark tiles disappeared...
