Ok I know that you can become leader, what I want to know is how. most of the time they have a leader who won't conveniently go away for me to become ruler, but If i kill them I become an enemy and fail.

Currently, the only option is to become a nation of one, by killing everything.

druid91 you might need fort mode and exploiting the world gen to do this... mostly figuring out how does one get a military status is the big hurtle.

also killing a local civ member strips you of being king.
found that out when I use runesmith on a drunk elf to fight his demon king.
so if you do wipe out the entire nation you pretty much not be known by the legend as a king.
