Buy one of those little books that has all the rules in it. You see them at convenience stores sometimes. They're specifically for learners, and one casual read through and you'll ace it.

But generally the written tests are easy as hell anyways, so no worries.

Congratulations! You've just barely legally got by knowing the minimum facts needed to be on the road. Sounds harsh, but really, make sure you Actually know all that stuff. It could save your life, or more importantly, many many others.

Now buy a classic British sports car. May as well look really cool in your first crash.

This. A kid was recently hit in my high school parking lot, got some really nasty scratches, and had to go to the hospital. The guy who hit him, however, is likely going to jail and, if the rumors are correct, is being sued on top of having to pay a fine.

By the way, my advice mostly pertains to the normal test.

Written test was a piece of cake.

The driving test... vengeful deities... nit-picked to death! took 3 tries

The main thing was using mirrors only while backing... I'm used to backing an SUV into a garage (~6 inches clearance on either side). Mirrors are a must, and looking over your shoulder out the back is like looking down a tunnel... you see NOTHING HELPFUL. I suppose you could see a vehicle if one were there, but no better than you would using all 3 mirrors! </rant>

Anyway, Congrats! Drive safe!

I got seriously nit-picked too

I failed my first time, lost 10 (need 75/100 to pass) points for going 21mph in a 20mph zone.

I nearly failed my driving test for going five miles over (an auto-fail), in a car with a speedometer that consistently measured speed at five miles too slow.

well, if you drive a little bit more than the speed limit in your driving test, maybe you'll start driving a lot more later, right? like, a lot of people pass and they still drive five or ten mph over later in life. they want to cut that down as much as possible.

Drive defensively.

We have enough retards on the road thinking they're awesome indy racers and plowing into shit and other people.

If you're not passing, get the hell out of the left lane. This causes so many traffic jams in CA, some clueless idiot blocking traffic by going slow in the passing lane. It's a good way to avoid being hit too.

My exam-giver had me drive wicked close to the curb.
Like, I told him I can't get any closer. He Insisted.
He didn't really want to listen.

So I duitifully ground the edge of the car against the curb.

Still passed.

Congratulations on passing.

I got my learner's over a year ago, passed the test without too much difficulty. I'm able to go for my liscence at the end of the year, so that should be interesting.
