Are you suggesting making ancient ruins deep underwater, so your adventurers can dive into an artificial lake to hunt for treasure?

Don't believe in yourself! Believe in us who believe in you! Yours is the pick that will strike the Earth!

Or something to that effect.

On Scorching biomes does water evaporate when exposed to open air?

Water does indeed evaporate in outdoor tiles in hot/scorching areas.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

Anything but the two extremes, really, but since the poll only allows two options I went for cold/temperate instead.

Freezing if i can find an interesting site. Preferably with a volcano and aquifer. Oh the Fun to be had. On top of this, evil, but I've cut back on that quite a bit with the enormously difficult military, drawbridges being destructible while raised, and my own lack of understanding of traps. (mostly form never giving a damn about them.)

If Scourching still leads to rain that melts dwarfs, I'd vote for that.  Otherwise freezing.

Freezing. Ice forts are the best forts, and providing for everybody right at the start is good fun.

Temperate, because i want winter for some projects, (like a dam).
And i dont want winter all the time.

I generally like cold or scorching biomes. One of my favorite things to do is allow the temperatures to reach 0-1000 degrees, just to allow me plenty of options.

All my worlds are forced between 20 and 40 degrees, because I hate jungles with a passion. Something about dwarves in cheeta leather pants just pisses me off. Also there's nothing better than a summer-thaw tiaga for your dwarven fortress.

Freezing, but only if I start on a glacier or a volcano, because I love having a fort made out of ice, and I also love making dwarven heater ducts.

Cold for the seasonal freezing.  It really is awesome to make "underwater" constructions in the ice, and these can go hilariously wrong as well leading to much Fun if you judge the time wrong or get a early temperature spike.

Hot/scorching doesn't seem to make much difference gameplay-wise other than pools evaporating in the hotter months and different selection of animals.

Cold wilderness on mountainous terrain, some trees, 3 biomes with one or two having an aquifer and a river/brook is my ideal embark.
