This was the best idea I've ever had
« on: May 28, 2010, 08:06:06 pm »

So, I embarked on a random volcano on the world map, not thinking much about it. When I arrived and scouted out the map for the first time I came across a ridiculously tall volcano (40 or so z-levels.) Most of which was jutting out from the side of a mountain, using all of my dwarven ingenuity I decided to poke a hole in it, filling the valley below.

I lol'd.

Is that a consistent covering, or just sometimes a full cover?

Can't you also damn rivers by causing a wall to drop into the water via cave-in?
I figured you could always damn a river by channeling out it out all the way into Hell.

What exactly do you mean by that? Like, is it always been poured? Then yes.

Haha I did the same thing.  In my current fort it doesn't even serve any purpose, I just like the flowing lava for the ambience.

Even more fun is let it loose on a glacier (melts the ice).  Unfortunately I lost both my miners that time, due to the water getting on them and then refreezing.

It would be fun to wall off the bottom part of the map and make an enormous magma lake for your fort to sit in :)

I did this once too.  Why don't the trees catch on fire?

Because they're protected by the same magic that prevents elves from catching on fire when stealing magma.

I did this, but chanelled it into a massive and terrifying magma moat, with overflows to unused caverns.

lol, that's a random volcano, just a huge free-standing caldera. Above ground magma-pipe.

And yeah, who needs trees? Not like you need the charcoal with all that magma :D.

Tress should burn and turn into charcoal bars.
