Smaller worlds?
« on: February 06, 2008, 05:25:00 pm »

I know this will be a low priority if it ever comes but would it be possible to add an init option that would allow us to generate a 128x128 or 64x64 or maybe a 32x32 world for people with weaker pc's?

I was planning to do it as part of the far-future World Generation Parameters arc, and there are a number of annoyances to work through (all of the entity start info would be need to be scaled, rejection parameters rescaled, etc.).  This particular generation parameter might slip in to v1 though, since think having a little 16x16 world to trounce around in would be entertaining.

At the end of the Army Arc, it'd be fun to have a tiny world where goblins and dwarves fight tooth and nail for supremacy. It would be like the world's most elaborate chess game, with full armies moving around on the board and taking, burning, reclaiming spaces.

If you put in support for smaller worlds, add support for bigger ones too... but yeah smaller would probably help more people.
