Fallout 3 problems.
« on: May 25, 2010, 07:02:57 pm »

Since their community and forums are very, very, erm, unresponive, should I say, I'll post this here.

I have two mods with conflicting folders that they need to run, because in the data folders mod A has a folder it needs called 'textures', and mod B has another one called 'Textures'. Is there any way to work around this and make it so I can play both mods?

I'm posting this here because I think I'll get more responses, and I really want this done by the end of the night, ya know.

This would have been a better place to post FO3 questions, since we're currently discussing this, but you can be forgiven for missing it.

Merge the folders with the 'textures' folder that is already in your vanilla FO3. It should work.

Here's a couple of points here:

1. This is not a tech support forum. I'm not being mean, but so many people ask here for tech support because the community here is so helpful. I'm not sure whether that's a bad thing or a good thing. :P
2. Please post in the original Fallout 3 thread. The necro might even get you extra attention. : D

Barring that, I'm assuming that there's some sort of mod .ini file. If I were you, I'd attempt to merge them, put one texture file inside the other and modify the mod file to include all the other files from the other mod. Or google it, I'm sure it's happened before.

Most modifications to existing games are often incompatible with one another (Except minor mods like CALIBR), so good luck!

EDIT: Darn, ninja'd by an attractive older man. D:

I second the Necro motion, but to answer your question anyway:

1. unpack the mod with the least importance first.
2. Any conflict in that case will be visual and the last one installed will have priority
3. It's common for mods to share the same folder, but the files they put in that folder is often different, so there's no conflict.

and

4. Actual conflict happens inside the mod files, not the miscellaneous stuff they add to the texture/etc folders.

With fallout3, you can't say mods are conflicting because they put files in the same folder. So go for it.

Um, this advice makes no sense.

If you're using FOMM (and you should be), just use that for the load order.

The problem you're specifying isn't even a problem, since the textures folders are meant to be merged.

Archive Invalidation Invalidated mod is everyone's best friend, it can save the day when textures have problems.
