IN advent mode or IRL?

In advent mode I just go to a Goblin fort and murder a random guard and take his armor and crap for sale.

Money is pretty useless,
the only ones who take it are humans and you can steal from them pretty easily.

If you want to find valuables look around your dwarf fort, if you haven't got any, look around any caves near dwarf forts because the monsters living in them raid the dwarves.

aside from that just steal or sell the armor off of your victims

Ettins and Cyclops usually have their caves full of valuable trinkets you can sell.

Ettins, Cyclops(es?), Giants, Dragons & Kobolds (did I miss any?). They sure love their stuff...If you want you could just explore their caves, take all that you can & just leave without fighting anyone (yet).

But yeah, you only want money if you want to walk the civilized, not that psychotic, adventurer route

Look for a cave with a bunch of loot outside, pick it up without attracting the attention of any inhabitants, and run back to town after you've got a bunch of stuff.

Remember that coins from another civilization aren't worth much to traders.

Step 1 - Recruit meatshields from your local human populace.

Step 2 - Find an equally local cave sheltering a Giant.

Step 3 - Watch from the shadows as said Giant breaks your companions.

Step 4 - Loot.

Thats a good idea, even if the giant doesn't have any useful loot, the crap your dead buddies are wearing would be easy pickings. You'd never even need to go to war with a civ that way.

Alternatively, anything you can do to get your comrades killed could be profitable. Go do some patrols on a Terrifying river or something untill you can afford that +Iron Halberd+ back in town you've got your eye on.

You could always set other people on fire and wait for them to bleed to death, then grab their stuff (before it also burns) and go sell it. A far less dangerous way to perform assassinations as well.
