Minimal Noble Design.
« on: May 19, 2010, 02:51:23 am »

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to share some noble positions I have been working on. Tailored to smaller forts that want to get the most out of its dwarves while maintaining a reasonable noble structure.

Mostly just merging positions and naming them something fitting.

eg: [RESPONSIBILITY:MEET_WORKERS]+[RESPONSIBILITY:MANAGE_PRODUCTION]= GENERAL_MANAGER, [RESPONSIBILITY:TRADE]+[RESPONSIBILITY:ACCOUNTING]=COMMODITY_MANAGER ect

I also kind of fixed the bug when your mayor (removed) dies, changing it to a DWARVEN_CHIEF (that is in charge of appointing the lesser nobles and also acts as a small town guard among other things) who gets replaced by a HEAD_DWARF (elected) in the case of death. (Does this bug still exist in the new release?)

If you don't have anything better to do, I would like to hear comments/suggestions if you have any.

At first, it was not a bug. It was a properly coded behaviour which other people do not like :P.

ELECTED fixes that, but there's a bug with multiple elected positions (i.e. multiple mayors) which needs to be fixed.

So it was intended all along? I didn't know.

Anyways, it kind of fixes the problem I have with it. Missing three caravans of needed food because of a giant lion killing my mayor and broker seemed like a bug.

It's a bug compared to behavior in the previous version. My custom race in 40d didn't have Mayors, and yet when an expedition leader died (very, very frequently; I went through 26 of them) a replacement would be appointed next season, rather than years later.

Furthermore, in my experience succession does not work in fortress mode; it only seems to happen in world gen. Have you actually tested the Head Dwarf?

Nope, I figured he would just become a Chief when the current one died. I guess assuming things isn't very scientific of me. I added a few other tags based on assumptions and curiosity of what they did. Like: [RESPONSIBILITY:PATROL_TERRITORY][RESPONSIBILITY:RELIGION][RESPONSIBILITY:ATTACK_ENEMIES] so the whole thing was kind of a test.

The main point of this was the job merges so it is no big loss if I have to get rid of the head dwarf, I hope it works though.
