Dwarves bleeding to death for no apparent reason.
« on: April 07, 2010, 10:26:58 am »

So it all began with a miner, who started leaving a bloodtrail.
Upon checking it turned out that he had a lot of brown wounds (centered on his face and hands), which I couldn't explain to myself.
Soon afterwards he died of bloodloss.

At first I thought it may be caused by letting him dig through warm stone, but after that 3 other dwarves died in the same way (a grower, a craftsdwarf and another miner).

Even though my fortress is build in the middle of the cavern, I'm sure not one of them has gotten into a fight (there would be combat reports).
And it isn't because of the acid-rain-bug some people are experiencing, since only few of my dwarves go to the surface and those weren't any of them.

So anyone experienced something similar or has an explanation for this?
Or should I proceed in posting it in the bug forum?

That cant be the problem(s).
As I said, my dwarves stay undergound and if I remember correctly my biome is temperate.

Furthermore "Acid Rain" only applies to scorching biomes while raining and being aboveground.

I melted a group of dwarves in a freezing biome.

Unfortunately, 2010 is far to slow on my laptop, so I'm reverting to 40d18 until I either upgrade to a better system, or upgrade to a WAY better system. 2-4fps is no go for me, not with just 7 dwarves.

My dwarves rarely go to the surface, they still suffer from the fat deaths, even when it's not raining.

If the damage is coming from extremities then it's almost certainly what you've got.

So how come the others are not dying?
I watched my military dwarves washing off the blood from creatures they fought off and they didn't even got a scratch.

And about the 4 dead dwaves.
I only could confirm the wounds on one of them.
For the other ones I was to late for checking.

Oh good Armok.  I didn't realize this could be an issue.  I embarked on a jungle volcano and two of my dwarves have mysteriously died for no reason I could find (no warning, no alerts, no combats, etc), so this might be it.

I just find it strange that the dwarves that died did so away from the magma forges or any lava (at least 15 squares away).  They just suddenly started bleeding heavily and died, leaving a trail of blood as they walked.

Where can you check the temperature at?

They're emo dwarves. Every night they text poetry to their exes and cut themselves.

LOL.  I read that wrong, but it still works  "Every night they text poetry to their AXES and cut themselves."
