How do I let an animal out of a cage?
« on: May 16, 2010, 10:45:23 pm »

I have some puppies that finally matured to a dog in a cage.  How can I get them out of the cage so that I can train them as war dogs?

Build the cage if it is sitting on a stockpile, then 'q' over it, 'a'ssign and remove them from the list.

Can you clarify what you mean by remove them from the list?  I have all of my (excess) my cats and stuff in a cage so that they don't become pets.  It's not a stockpile cage, just a regular built cage.  I don't see any option to release the occupants.

Press enter, to remove the indicator which marks them as being in the cage (or assigns them to be placed in the cage, depending on how you look at it). A dwarf will come by and release them, eventually.

When you select (with 'q') the cage and open the 'a'ssign menu, the list display all animals that can be caged, including those already in that cage: they show up at the top of the list with the cage icon/tile on the right. Pressing enter will toggle whether the selected animal is to be added or released from the cage.

Ninja'd, but whatever.
