Wagon... traffic jam?
« on: May 12, 2010, 01:15:50 am »

I always check the wiki when I have problems, but I can't find this problem addressed anywhere. So I have to bother you folks.
I'm playing 40d, and all of a sudden, the traders are not unloading their goods. Instead, all the wagons are bunched together in front of the Trade Depot.

The only thing that has changed is that I had previously deconstructed the depot and put a new one in its place. (It was the only way I could think of to get the dwarves to move items which had been left there.)

This is probably what's caused this thing to happen, I just don't know how to undo it.

Thanks in advance.

i suggest magma.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

I've had this happen to me myself (in the play-along tutorial). As far as I know, there is no way to make them move again. Demolishing the depot again is how I got them to pack up and leave.

That's no fun at all.

i suggest magma.

There we go. I second this motion.

Ah, I found the solution. Sadly, it did not involve magma.

I saved the game, then deconstructed the trade depot they were crowding around, and to my surprise, they all moved into the second trade depot. I expected them to give up and go home. (I already had it built, you can see it in the bottom left corner of that picture.)

I managed to rid of some rocks which were un-garbage-able that had been left behind. I think these are what caused the problem.

I don't know yet if my new new trade depot will have this same problem.

Having multiple trade depots in 40d was a surefire way to confuse the hell out of Human caravans. It isn't yet established whether or not this also applies to 0.31, but it probably does.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

It does.  After having multiple elven caravans slaughtered in my depot by goblins (the new super warthog variety)  I opened a new trade depot;  even when they couldn't path to the original, they ignored the new one until i deconstructed the original.

Actually, the humans have hated me from the beginning and never traded with me. I guess I'm at war with them? How can I check the worldgen history for that kind of thing?

The second trade depot was inaccessible, secured behind a drawbridge. Perhaps it still managed to mess things up.

When you embark, it can tell you a little about your neighbors when you tab through the various views, including whether you're at war with any of them.
