ranged weapon attack speed?
« on: May 12, 2010, 12:44:21 pm »

Am I missing something or is there no way to affect how rapidly a ranged weapon can be fired?  I suppose the same can be said for melee weapons... does anything affect this?  The only thing I can think might is SIZE.  The WEIGHT token is still listed in the wiki, but not present in the raws at all.  Deprecated?  Its still present in the string dump.

Best I can tell there is no way.

Weight is now a function of both SIZE and DENSITY.

Well that's depressing.

I assume you mean the SOLID_DENSITY of the material the item is made out of.  So the weight is just used to determine the effectiveness of the weapon in blunt combat?  No attack frequency at all?

[SHOOT_MAXVEL:100] (Bow and Crossbow)
[SHOOT_MAXVEL:1000] (Dartblower)

More = Faster

If this does not determine ranged weapon attack speed... then I don't know anything.

SHOOT_MAXVEL:X is the maximum speed the projectile can move at. It's set to prevent weapons from doing infinite damage with a weightless object. I would assume that by removing it you could add laser crossbows.

It doesn't affect the rate at which bolts are fired though.  It only affects how fast they travel, and presumably how hard they hit, although no one has tested that and reported about it that I am aware of.  The ammo itself has the same attack variables in its definition, with its own velocity multiplier, penetration, and whatnot, so its hard to say if has effect without testing.

The fire rate is affected by the current creature's speed and shooting skill.

Well yes, of course, but that's entirely independant of the weapon itself.  I was hoping to make like a slow-shooting powerful gun and a fast-shooting weak gun, but that's impossible.  I settled for a gun that just about instagibs people in light armor, buts only mildly effective against people in heavy armor, and a gun that just about ignores armor, but does less damage in general.

The only way to slow the person down is to make a gun incredibly heavy; but extremely strong people will have no problems with it so it doesn't work too well.

That'll just affect the movement speed of the dude carrying the gun, it won't affect his attackspeed, right?  :(

I am pretty sure the speed is a 'tick rate' for all actions, including movement.

If you make it heavy enough it will reduce his attack rate, but it will also be among the deadliest weapons in melee if he ever hits them.

Very much not what I'm going for. :(

Thanks anyway!
