In Soviet Russia, environment destroys you!

Germany learned this the hard way.

No, your game must be broken.

Honest answer: Maybe mammoths are worth a lot of XP?

While you "axed off its leg and pulled out its tusk", did you have hundreds of pages of combat log building up to those key events? Or were they the first 2 actions ever in the combat?

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

There's your answer then. Sure it's unrealistic to get so much skill improvement from 1 fight, no matter how long it is, but that'll be fixed when combat balance is tweaked. Currently, some modes of combat (wrestling, blunt damage, even piercing damage) have such low chances of fatalities that the fights drag on and since EXP is balanced for quick fatalities but gained for practising skills (so every swing or punch) you have these illogical outcomes.

It's something of a known oddity dealing with wrestling with very strong creatures - for example, allowing a bronze colossus to perform one wrestling move on you will give you about 25,000 experience points for both the Wrestler and Fighter skills, enough to take you straight from Dabbling to Legendary+3.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
