World Gen Questions (Take 2)
« on: May 13, 2010, 01:19:05 am »

Is there a way to increase the amount of a certain stone layer in a world? (IE Limestone) Or possibly at least a certain type of stone layer (Sedimentary)?

Yes!  Volcanism controlls the types of rocks.  If you want Sedimentary/Flux the best way is to increase the weight of 0-20 Volcanism in worldgen.

Also be sure to get rid of the minimum high and medium volcanism requirements at the bottom to prevent endless map rejections.

So basically I have to choose between accessible magma and easy to reach iron/fuel?

Damn you choices! =P

The solution is to make volcanism variance very high so you can get polar opposite ends of the spectrum right next to each other. Make the mesh size 16x16, maximise the X and Y variances for volcanism, remove all "minimum tiles that must be..." requirements from the worldgen parameters.

On the other hand, magma isn't actually hard to reach even if it's underground. If you play in a flat zone, the magma can be within 50 z-levels (less if you tweak worldgen parameters further). With ramps, that's only about twice the distance from the top of the screen to the bottom. You may actually be walking further to reach the magma at a volcano than to just walk down ramps. Need that magma at the surface? Learn pump stacks.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.
