Armok would be proud...
« on: May 11, 2010, 12:18:56 am »

So my above-ground fort currently looks like:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I don't know if my dwarfs just don't have time to clean, or if they won't do it above ground (it is indoors), if it's a bug or what. But that is the blood of ONE macaque, that's been tracked and spread all across my map. Any ideas as to what is going on?

I think my next step will be to build a pump stack from the aquifer down below, and make it so each floor of the fort can be flooded at will. Any design suggestions on this? I've read the wiki on making stacks, have yet to actually do it before though.

Thats a known bug.  Basically, someone steps in a puddle of blood and tracks it to another tile and now you have two puddles of blood.  Then all of a sudden blood, mud and vomit get tracked everywhere and it basically can't be *cleaned* up.  Posters below have solutions.

It's a known bug in 0.31. All blood, dust, mud etc., multiplies as it spreads. Your main halls will just be red smears before long. And it never goes away. You can use DF Hack to clean it instantly if you don't mind that it's technically "cheating".

It goes away if it ever rains. If it rains enough, it could combat the spreading your dwarves do.

If not, then all you can do is build constructed floors (or walls) on it then remove them. Or, yeah, DFHack.

Actually, the color does change. Troll blood is blue, and it beats all red colors. Bug ichor is white, and it trumps all blue. There's a whole rainbow of color superiority for blood and muck and stuff.

What is this, a therapy session? We don't need to console someone because they're upset about a fucking video game. Grow a beard, son, and take off those elf ears!

I will say that after I ran dfhack to clean the tiles, my FPS went up about 7-10 FPS.  it's worth the effort to run it.

And I had a MESSY fort.  My farm, which had a pool in an enclosed area, was saturated, and then they tracked it all indoors.  Funny thing is troll and cave spider juices are a different color, so occasionally it'd be a mix.

And my brook was stained red.  It never washed away!  The water animation completely stopped as it was all covered in blood.

Strangely enough, snow won't wash it away. I reclaimed a fortress that had an ample supply of booze when I left, and I made a superdwarvenly large pile of yellow snow. :)
