Lead and Gold
« on: March 20, 2010, 04:38:22 pm »

I was going to buy a pizza on sunday, but then I saw this game and went 'oh fuck why not' and so my pizza money went into a game I didn't full-demo first. Might regret it, as usual, but it's downloading right now.

I'm a sucker for old west games. -_-

Anyway...

It's on discount on steam, full game + access to beta. It's basically a old west team fortress 2 / CSS of sorts.

Some gameplay videos:

Hopefully I will be able to play tonight and tell more about it.

This game is out? I read about it a few months ago, wasn't really confident in it turning out good. All I know is that paradox makes it, which is good, but it's wild west shooter kind of game so no clue how good of a combination that should be.. Looking forward to knowing if it's good gameplay wise, though.

I have played about 30-40 mins of it and it really plays like a wild west mod for TF2. Not revolutionary, but for $15 it will entertain you for a month or two most likely.

Bought it on a whim a few days back.
The server browser sucks.
I repeat:
the server browser sucks.

If they made it possible to see all servers, even if they are full, I would consider trying to play again... but for now I'm not going to bother. It seemed fun, but joining a 250ms server because it was the only one I saw and I didn't know if there were other choices worth waiting for a spot to open up really wasn't a pleasant experience.

It really does. It's one of the reasons I haven't played it much.

The lack of dedicated servers was another issue, I don't know if they did anything about that.

Whelp, I didn't even know that was the case. It explains a lot, though.

It utterly evades me why game developers ever think it's a good idea to cripple their games by not allowing dedicated servers.

Two words: console portability.

The L&G team is working on them. (Of course they've been 'working' on them for awhile now. So expect dedicated L&G servers on a Valve Time schedule)

What's with all the XP and ranks? I thought this was like Team Fortress.

They're per round. So you always start at 1. As you level up during a round your synergy bonus gets better. So it doesn't really do anything for you, but makes the rest of your team better.

Actually, they do something for you. Your own synergy affects yourself. so you have a bonus from being good and help your nearby teammates.
