Diary of Sarvesh Mossbeard

31th Obsidian, 1050, Late Winter.
I'm in trouble. Big trouble. Potentially lethal trouble.
I've been sleeping with this beauty of a dwarf . A splendid specimen with a smooth, tressed, golden beard and deep blue eyes.
We've been flirting, drinking, digging, sleeping, and eating happily together for over three months now.
So why do we have to run from the mountain homes? Just found out she's the illegimate daughter of King Dumat Channeleddrummed.
Me, a simple peasant, sleeping with the King's Daughter. If the news spread, my head would surely be put on a pike.

First thing we could think off - run away. Away from the crismon mountains, past the ashen sea, the white forest, the cursed lands and the elven trees. We had no other choices. Sold everything we had to buy a small caravan. A lifetime's worth of savings spend under a week. We ran as far our supplies could carry us, until we had no more choice but to settle down and build a base camp.

May our ancestors watch over us. Here, at the end of the known world, we'll strike the earth once more. Just the two of us.

---
I'm doing a dual-hermit challenge. Its like a normal hermit challenge, but it start with two dwarves instead.
All immigration will be turned out, and no trade depot will be built. I'll be using vanilla Dwarf Fortress, version 40d19.

Right then. This should be very exciting.

I'd like to be the guy, if you haven't named them already.

That's the great thing about this forum. We can derail any discussion into any other topic.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

They're already named. Of course they're named. He's called Sarvesh Mossbeard.

Anyone knows a way to alter a dwarf's original name?

Thats only the nickname unfortunatly :(

Edit: 5 minutes in, the migrant trap is designed. A small room, stairs, and a forbidden trapdoor.
They're all gonna starve to death. First entry coming up.

1st Granite, 1051, Early Spring.
We have arrived at our final destination. A small mountain chain, barely a hill, splits the haunted marsh of bandits and the temperate forest north and south of us.
I've started by digging the closest peak flat. There we will build a small home, akin to the way humans lives.
Our living quarters will be above ground, build with dead highwood and granite stone. Under it we will dig our farm, the wine cellar, a few workshops and some natural defenses.
We ain't digging for wealth - we are doing it for survival. I hope the rumors of skeletal monsters in the marsh were false.

3rd Granite, 1051, Early Spring.
We caught glimpse of a wild fox. A good omen. It probably came from the forest.

13th Granite, 1051, Early Spring.
Sarvesh crushed under the collapsing ceiling. (F**k! D: I call a Mulligan!)

Change which part of the name, name, surname, entire name etc. is changed in the init options, it's near the bottom.

5th Slate, 1051, Mid-Spring

We started building the outer wall of our future home. We made them with various dead highwood.
Then we smoothed down the floor, dug space for the workshop, and worked out our way to a farm.
We still need to make a room for storage.

27th Slate, 1051, Late Spring.
Thats it. I hate that my two best friends Urist and Kogan died on hunger. I'm gonna throw a trantrum. In my bed. Resting.
With the door locked out by my wife. Send in the peasants. I'll love to pickaxe their brains out.

They'll be coming soon. They've both resting in bed, still got 3 peasants left - getting thirsty. Gotta keep a peasant for health care.

Edit: This is awesome. They're both resting due to wounds (I don't know how they got them). They've been so for several months with only one peasant to take care of them. The challenge will start when they've fully heal. Sarvesh really can't take pressure and will trantrum at will.

(I think a bar of coal in a wooden bin, doused in magma, then placed behind bars will make the perfect fireplace.)
(All we need to sacrifice is one migrant. What do you guys think about it? )
