Wolf propelled away by live beetle strike.
« on: May 19, 2010, 03:49:50 pm »

Got ambushed by some wolves on my hammerman, and decided i was going to have some fun with the last one who was almost dead

Searched for something on the ground and picked up some beetles

Threw two at the wolf for shits and giggles, then this happened with the last one I threw:

It flew not short of where my hammerman propels wolves to with a maul.

Thats one hell of a beetle

Hmm. In the new version, we had a fluffy wambler killing a bronze colossi, but since you're able to kill anything with a hammer I assume that you're using 40d. Throwing is way overpowered in there.

Aye, that's one of Mayday's 40d builds. Also, maybe because something as small as a beetle is so lightweight, the throw endowed it with such velocity as to act like a... erm... shotgun shell. :3

You know you've found a good game when you can brain a giant with its own severed finger.

Bronzebeard's post has me wondering though. Are there actual physics behind thrown projectiles and how much carnage they can achieve, or were you just being cute?

That wasn't technically a miscarriage, but the doctors didn't have a concise term for "gave birth and immediately baptized the baby in liquid fire."
Dwarf Fortress: Killing people so you can draft their dogs into the army.

I was looking to strike a happy medium betwixt the two. I mean, objects all have a set weight, right? Surely that plays a role in whatever rudimentary physics the game employs.

There're no actual physics, there're weird Toady's formulas, and the one for throwing has been broken since the beginning of the time. He plans to update it someday, but it's not fixed yet. And the more complex bodies become, the more lulz come from throwing vermin :P.

So if you had somehow acquired slade pebbles... what would those do when thrown?

The same thing as styrofoam pebbles.

When I'm in adventure mode I often do the following:

1. Kill and elf
2. Get an elf corpse
3. Slaughter entire elf village (with the corpse, bonus points if it's unmangled, bonus bonus points if it's a child)
4. Go recruit some dwarfs
5. Kill dragon
6. Get dragon corpse
7. Use dragon corpse as weapon to massacre entire elven civilization
8. Legendary misc. items  8)
