Good Square Tileset for Widescreen?
« on: May 11, 2010, 10:57:25 pm »

Hey guys. I'm currently running at 1366x768 resolution and I was wondering if there were any tile sets that would work well on such a resolution. I'm looking for something kind of like Dorten's tile set that has nice angled walls or maybe some graphical tile sets , just something to make the walls look nice :P Any suggestions would be nice. The default tile set makes it so that the map is very distorted and three tiles across is no where near what three tiles down is making the rooms like all strange :P

The issue is that you probably aren't changing your grid size.

You should be able to use whichever tileset you want, provided you change the grid size in your init file so that the result matches your screen resolution.

For instance, your horizontal grid size at 80 (default), with a tile size of 16x16, means DF will be 1280 pixels wide. Turning black space on might also help.

Thanks for the info, it has been a while since I've used a tileset normally I just play with the normal tileset and get on with my life :P But I want to get something a bit easier for people who have never played DF Before to understand for my Blog. At the same time I don't want to get a full of graphic tile set because I don't want dedicated DF fans to think I'm a sell out for using graphics : P Thanks for the advice I'll just give it a try and see what happens, what is the worst thing that can happen ? :P

I've recently come across a calculator for gridsizing.

For some reason after selecting another tile set now all I see when I start dwarf fortress is blackness .I've confirmed that everything in the ini file is correct including the grid settings, I'm confused now :P (never mind I forgot to put the .bmp on the end lol)

I'm quite amazed someone made a calculator specifically to do a single division/multiplication operation.

I use the Oreslam tileset from the wiki on my giant screen, and it looks great; rather detailed, and perfect for zooming in and out, as well, once 31.04 comes out  :)

Heh, the other day I wrote myself a script to calculate everything and edit the init file for me, all I had to do was give it a ballpark resolution and it calculates the right resolution to match tilesize and sets grid size. ;)

Of course it'll all be moot as soon as the merge is done.
