I wouldn't mind subscribing, but I think it's going to get out of hand for you. Have you considered opening an account on blogger or wordpress or something? That would give us RSS feeds to follow and cut your work dramatically.

topic: The April Bay 12 Games Report: Donations reach record-breaking levels
Driven by the eagerly-awaited release of the first major Dwarf Fortress update in over a year, fans of Bay 12 Games donated over $16,000 during the month of April, including almost $3500 on April 1st alone.  Toady expressed his surprise and and gratitude at the showing of support despite the length of time elapsed since the last release, and offered his assurances that he would attempt to reduce the time between updates in the future.

In other DF news, Toady confirmed that the next patch should incorporate the merge with the 40d# code, and said he expects to be working on bug fixes through at least the end of May.

Alright, had a couple of buzy days, but I added Mephansteras, dragon1423, Mishy, Rilder, hermes, Daenyth, JoshBrickstien and xtank5 to the subscription list.

I wouldn't mind subscribing, but I think it's going to get out of hand for you. Have you considered opening an account on blogger or wordpress or something? That would give us RSS feeds to follow and cut your work dramatically.

I really want to keep this on the forums due accessibility. However, you're right, in between the shoddy pm-system, the max amount of people I can PM at a time, and the length of that list, it's going to get out of hand.

I'm going to set up an archive topic. people can subscribe to that.

EDIT: All right, I made an archive topic, people please subscribe to that!(Follow the instructions)

Thanks!

Hey, guys, I was looking at one of the multi-threading threads, and was wondering, would anyone be interested if I wrote some columns on the technicalities behind DF. Like, I first explain how the computer works, like ram and the cpu, then I give an idea of the type of algorithms and systems DF uses, and why this slows down the computer, and finally I explain things like multi threading, the GPU and the kind of changes 40D has implemented. It'll take a bit of research for me(mostly figuring out the changes in 40d), but I should be able to give a comprehensible explanation.

Of course, if anyone who fully understands the issue would like to help out(mostly proof reading, I'm not very interested sending out false info into the world), I would be happy to accept it.

My god. Why did no-one tell me about custom job titles before? I need a crazy cat lady!

@therahedwig: I'd love to know a bit more about the algorithms, sure, but also more about the kind of data structures one would need to make a DF-like game (i.e. how do you store/cache a large 3D world? How do you store all the unit data, jobs, etc.?)

A suggestion from me:
Ledi's Self Challenge to Overcome OCD

It all started as an experiment to end her OCD-issues in Dwarf Fortress (a known problem in this community as far as i can recall), but after the decision to log the entire process it became pretty amusing.
Or to quote a reader:
This is Boatmurdered quality entertainment. Keep up the good work!

Even if it's not, SOMETHING about this story must have moved him/her to write this, so it can't be just plain average.

"Good work so far" to the WW-writer(s) and especially to therahedwig for this well developing idea!
