So I've been generating new worlds recently because I'm very bad about looking for the 'perfect' spot (one of these days, I'm going to have someone gen a world for me, tell me where to settle, and damnit, I will do it.  Until then, OCD searching for spots!).  Yesterday, while looking at various interesting-ish spots, I found something I've never seen before (I use Reveal to check out a site before I decide if I want to play there).  I might go back to that spot, even though it doesn't have a brook (I think I can get it with an aquifer, so that might do).  Anyway, the interesting thing on this map:

The magma sea seems to be excessively tall.  It seems like during a Biome shift, the magma sea got split, so on one side, it starts at ~Z 80, but the other side doesn't have much magma until ~Z 50.  This has lead to HUGE adamantine veins.  If I remember, there were 4 or so that were about 40 Z levels tall, and another was 50 Z levels tall.  And for most of the veins, only about 5 Z levels are actually touching magma, so most of it is actually accessible.

Has anyone else seen that much of the stuff?  Usually, I'm used to the veins only being about 10 Z levels tall, maybe 20 if I'm lucky.

There's been a few other people that have gotten similiar features, one who apparently had veins all the way up into the first cavern layer. But don't assume that just because they are high up they are any safer, mine at your own risk.

So, you can hit the carnival even when the vein is at the surface and you dig out only one layer?
