i have thought about this, a magma and a water cannon, shooting at each other, creating obsidian, which will fall down, but the game keeps pausing when a cave-in happens, so its too impractical... sadly

There's that file that allows you to modify what announcements pause the game somewhere in the DF folder. Can't remember where exactly, but it's a text file.

It's announcements.txt in the init subdirectory.

And the cave-in announcement is probably:

[CAVE_COLLAPSE:A_D:D_D:P:R]

The P means pause and the R recenter, so you probably want to delete them.
