having cats leave shells
« on: May 05, 2010, 09:22:16 am »

Now, my map has turtles.  You can see them.  They're even inside.  I've got live turtles(and lungfish!) hanging out in my food stockpile, but they're ghost turtles, not 'real' enough for my fisherdwarves to catch when they're swarming the stockpiles.  My cats can, though, rapidly filling my stockpile with useless 'turtle remains' instead of their livesaving shells.  Are they eating the shells or something?

You never know when you might need a berserk dwarf to set loose somewhere.

The problem is that you can you only get shells in DF2010 by processing turtles, not eating them. It's a pain.

May I recommend modding the cats to to have shells? Kill two elves with one square of magma, so to speak.

It's easiest to just mod hair and hoof materials to count as shells by adding [SHELL] to them. Dwarfs will use them in place of shells.

Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.
