Test Mod, need some test Worlds..
« on: April 07, 2010, 01:48:21 pm »

Hey Guys,

I'm learning open3d from Google, and would like to use a few more models of fortress's to test some functions on. would anyone like to volunteer their ( a copy of) save files for me to try some things out? Essentially A decent sized fortress would be great, with some epic kinds of rooms, with columns, or such.. I'm working on one myself, but obviously I need to get alot better at DF before I'll create something worthy for testing some new 3D engine on.

PM me, I'll check back in a week or two.

I'm not sure how epic any of them might be, but there are some downloadable community games here:

Isn't a dwarf fortress visualiser a bit of a large project to start with when learning a new API?

Nah, if you want to be good at it, you should just jump right in with something reasonably difficult.  I remember when I was teaching myself Visual BASIC almost a decade ago, I started by making a client/server windows clone of the old BBS game Legend of the Red Dragon.  Of course, I already knew BASIC, but that was my first time using any of the Microsoft Visual tools or doing anything concerning networking, external databases, or client/server architecture in BASIC.

Wow, LotRD.  I haven't thought about that game in over a decade.  I used to love playing that, and Trade Wars...Usurper...good times.

Hehe, I actually own a registered version of TW2002 3.13 Gold server which is for telnet rather than BBSes.

Since I don't see anybody posting a save yet, I guess I'll post one.

Its modded, but if I understand visualisers right all you are really worried about is the terrain. It's not very impressive, more interested in function than form, but it's probably better than nothing.  The surface walls might be handy for you if yer looking for surface constructions at least.

If I read right, this is for a visualizer? Then I fully support you and offer some fort saves. Quite a lot of variations on large rooms; should be a good test spot.
