Hey guys, new to the game.

I sometimes see items lying around the outside of my fortress...from dead enemies, or whatever. How can I tell my dwarfs to go take that stuff? Is the only solution to make sure there are no full stockpiles for each item I see, and wait for my minions to gather them up?

This; and make sure it's not forbidden.

Actually, there is another way to move stuff.

First, use the zone menu (i) to designate a dumping zone. This is where you want your stuff moved. Then, mark everything you want moved there for dumping, and make sure it's not forbidden. The dwarves will then move the stuff.

On the orders menu you have to make sure that Dwarves are set to pick up refuse from outside as well.
