Need Help with a mod idea~

For a while now, I've been wanting to do a mostly frozen/snowy world, but I've realized I probably won't be able to do this without either modding the races, or screwing with world gen. Or perhaps both.

Could anyone perhaps give me some pointers/advice or whatever to do this?

I know I would most likely have to edit the BIOME_SUPPORT tag, and... Uh.. Yeah. I'm a bit lost. Still not that good at Modding. >.<

Any help would be appreciated. I just think it'd be pretty damn cool to have like, the whole world cold, and polar bears running through human towns. >.> Or something like that. I can't describe it.

The ones you need are FOREST_TAIGA, GLACIER and TUNDRA.

For example, you make
1) elves [START_BIOME:FOREST_TAIGA][BIOME_SUPPORT:FOREST_TAIGA:3][BIOME_SUPPORT:TUNDRA:1][BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_RIVER:1][BIOME_SUPPORT:GLACIER:0]

Then you tweak worldgen max. temperature and live in a freezing world :).

Thanks Deon, for the quick reply, and for linking the Biome token page on the Wiki. I was having trouble finding it. ^^

I'll give it at test and try to post any results, after a few tests, of course.. In a while. It'll probably be a while.

EDIT:
My world gen doesn't allow for Taiga forests? If I leave 'Forests' alone, it keeps green, happy forests. =/ Though, I should probably visit them first.

Overall, a frozen world, or at least, partly frozen world, is pretty kickass. Except the part where the humans have no doors, food, or anything. >_>

Since this slipped off the first page, I'm replying to it.

Does the game use Celsius for Temperature?

And what's some recommended cold temperatures?

I had mine at -100 and 5. >_>

It's very challenging to do a cold Biome, even more so when in adventure mode, the humans have like, nothing.

Actually it works sorta differently... I think it was Fahrenheit that was easiest to go by.

A dwarfs temperature is 10067 so if we go by F we get... 10067 - 9968 = Dwarf temp is 99 degrees F

I've actually been wanting to try modding in a glacial/tundra race with the Human city tags, so that there'd be arctic refuges for my polar adventurers. Tell us how it goes once you get it running!

It works and I don't see why don't you go and mod the race now :). My nords are such race. A small tip: make ANY tree which grows on glaciers. It won't appear there, but your race will have something to make doors and furniture out of.

How would I mod a tree to appear in the tundra and on a Glacier? It seems a bit silly that the humans have like, nothing. xD

I'm thinking of trying to start an Ice Age type mod. Try to mod in like.. Mammoths, Saber tooth cats, And whatever else lives in that era. It'll take a while, but it'll be fun. o:

Pick any tree in plants_standard.txt (or make your own) and add [BIOME:GLACIER] to it.

It's a shame there's no way to make the humans use ice instead of wood to make igloos.

You can make a blue tree called "ice" which grows only on glacier, and people there will make houses out of "ice"... But their furniture will be out of ice too. :P
