How would the goblin even know the door is locked? And secondly, shouldn't a goblin be able to break a door down? Unless it is like a really strong door(some sort of metal)?

Because pathfinding still has its flaws...
but well, Trolls, which  are sometimes part of goblin forces,
are able to deatroy doors.

On the other hand, thinking  of  stone doors which usually are the standard doors used by dwarves
(hey, only  elves use wood to create doors ) might surely withstand goblins
(as long as they donīt come with siege  equipment, which however isnīt in the game yet)

Unless they can pick locks or destroy the door they cannot path through the door assuming that you lock the door before they get to it. Once they reach the door and claim it you have no control over the door until a friendly paths through the door to reclaim it.

A locked door by itself tends to a very poor defense, as kobolds often times claim the door at the worst possible time, just seconds before a siege appears. If the goblins bring trolls or other building destroyers with them they will just destroy the door anyways. Most megabeasts can also crush doors.
