Making better leather armor
« on: April 24, 2010, 05:37:27 am »

I'm just thinking... What if we made another material, like hardened leather or something and gave it the necessary tags to be used in leather armor, that comes up in another reaction, so that we can make leather armor that is a bit better?

Is this feasible or is the damage leather armor can take unchangeable?

should be feasible, and if its not, leather lameller could simply be chain mail made from leather which would be more effective.
but really..
now that you dont need to worry about types in the current version, you can make anything wear anything.
I've been making my small kobolds wear elf armor.

Leather is the new iron. Go for it, maybe we'll stretch it's power all the way past Adamantine!
Also, leather swords.

Possible! However, if you want to see a sort of
Make leather hat              (a)
Make hard leather hat      (b)

Your nailed. This is because if you make leather with harder values, but still with the leather tag, the game sees it as just being leather and will make normal leather items out of them, although they will still have the propertys of better leather.
Using current in game raws you can make a dwarf more fire proof by making armor out of fire imp or dragon leather!

HOWEVER to specifically made hard leather armor, you need to make a metal called leather, but propertys similar to leather.

Meh, its really not so bad, just make some creatures have a new material for skin, and add a reaction at the tanners to make hard leather, then reactions at the leather works for making armor.

Just make sure your is the only race with the reaction, else races that use metal for weapons will show up with hard leather whips, and as kinky as it is, you want them to have badass metal weapons.

would'nt you just have to make a creature that is [FANCIFUL] so noone can use its leather (skin) make this imaginary creatures leather (skin) stronger and give the creature the name "hard" or whatever you like then make a custom workshop (or add a reaction to the tanner) for taking any tanned leather and a another material (realistc or not) and it produces a "hard leather" in which then you can make normal leather items from this hardded material that should never exsist, (hard leather greaves)

but if the creature never exsisted then dwarves (or preferred race) that you are playing as can only make hard leather. (unless you make this creature ready for all to use but doesn't spawn, unless elves bring this "hard" creature)

it would make sense to harden leather in the kitchen opposed to the tanner.
