Auto Updater
« on: December 22, 2007, 12:34:00 pm »

First of all, I'd like to thank Toady for all the work he's done releasing all these updates weekly. You fix so many things in such a short space of time, it's great! However, with new releases comes the need to transfer over save files and init.txt and whatever else you need, which can become tedious. I was thinking you could create some sort of simple Auto Updater with a future version of DF which searches for the newest version, downloads it and transfers the save games and other files from the old ones accordingly? It would be really, really handy!

Some people like older, more stable versions though.  I think that an update like this would be very low on the scale of importance, because it doesn't add anything to gameplay.   And it's never taken me more than fourty seconds to manually download and 'update'.

That's true. Well, is it possible that all files are included in one file so it isn't as tedious to C&P it every week?   :p

The only file you really need to modify with a new version is the init.txt.

But I've been generating new worlds for each version.
