Chocolate contains theobromine which when ingested by dogs, affects the central nervous system, and can cause epileptic seizures.
Although a small amount of chocolate won't kill a dog, they will however become addicted and go out of their way to get more, whenever possible, from then on.

If we can make this a workable material... Mmmm, chocolate fortresses, furniture, weapons, creatures.

Wait.

CHOCOLATE DEMONS!!!!

AAAA---MMMMmmm... Oh, right. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaa!!!!

EDIT:
Upon death, these things turn into chocolate bars, or at least when butchered, they give you lots of them. Their bones are peppermint sticks and their muscles are salt water taffy and their fur is cotton candy. Do I smell a delicious mod coming along?

Dwarf Fortress: Candy Land Mod.

It's a shame you can't mod magma into toffee. It would make awesome use/sense of the obsidian effect. But yeah, in this mod absolutely everything is edible on the spot, even the building materials, if possible. Watch your resources, and make sure your dwarves don't get a stomach ache. Also make sure their beds are still there when they wake up, they tend to have sweet dreams.

Y'all do know that DF already has a cacao tree, right?

Code: [Select]
[PLANT:CACAO]
[NAME:cacao tree][NAME_PLURAL:cacao trees][ADJ:cacao tree]
[USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:STRUCTURAL:STRUCTURAL_PLANT_TEMPLATE]
[BASIC_MAT:LOCAL_PLANT_MAT:STRUCTURAL]
[USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:WOOD:WOOD_TEMPLATE]
[STATE_NAME:ALL_SOLID:cacao wood]
[STATE_ADJ:ALL_SOLID:cacao wood]
[PREFIX:NONE]
[TREE:LOCAL_PLANT_MAT:WOOD][TREE_TILE:226]
[PREFSTRING:flowers]
[DRY]
[BIOME:FOREST_TROPICAL_MOIST_BROADLEAF]
[SAPLING]

Granted you can't get leaves from it or any of that stuff.

If making cacao that you can actually get cocoa from, I suggest naming the tree "cacao" and the product "cocoa", if for the simple reason of differentiating between the two materials. Ambiguity is bad.
