I have channeled a huge shaft directly above the Primary Lava Lake in my map up towards the lower underground sea.
I am about to sacrifice a few conscripted minners the break through the underside of the sea which will drop directly down on the lava sea.

I shall report the results soon.

You'd better have a pump system set up to bring the lava to the surface once the obsidian stops forming/steaming!
