vermin corpses don't generate miasma
« on: December 21, 2007, 12:55:00 pm »

So, i was thinking that in real life dead vermin are too small to generate a huge cloud of stink. This would make having cats a lot more useful, especially if vermin-borne illnesses are gonna be implemented (e.g. siege pressure goal).

Oh, no, they're not to small, trust me.  My parents have a place in the country that has wood rats and one of them ate some poison and died under the floor.

For now you could edit the raws and add [NOSMELLYROT] to vermin. This would stop them from generating miasma

Though it would make sense if the size of the cloud were related to the size of corpse.

What about making it so that the cats eat them and thus only leave bones behind.  Bones shouldn't produce miasma.

Cats don't really eat everything they kill. They're wasteful like that.

≡Cat leather hats≡ are all the rage in my fort.

(I'd use ¤ but I'm not sure that's the right symbol for masterwork)

But then sometimes you'll get my cat, who probably eats about 90% of the mice, birds, rats, deer, bears, and so on, she catches. Perhaps we need a tag for animals like [EATS_PREY] so the animal will eat body parts, chunks, and/or 'meat' items from a killed animal. But that is something separate. Cats probably should eat more prey animals, especialy since they are such small items most of the time (bugs and things) On that vein, Dogs probably should automatically hunt down, eat, and roll around in ANY miasma- inducing object. Dogs, you know...
Hey, maybe give dogs the bonecarn tag to start...
