Argh, quantum elf merchants cause crash!

Darn it, my best fort yet, and then I have these elves who keep crashing my game when they pack up to leave :(.

Try setting your dwarves to be [SPEED:0] in the save raws, then have someone deconstruct the depot so the elves' crap will just go everywhere and be yours for the taking, then remove the tag. A rather cheap exploit, but if it gets around a crash, hey-o.

Suffer not the elves to live.

Cave in the trade depot, wall it off and flood it with water with magma, do whatever must be done to kill them. Dead merchants can't pack up.

Elves don't usually live long enough to unpack in my experience XD

Awww geez, I tried deconstructing the depot, which got them to leave, but then the game crashed again :(.  Not sure what is causing it now.

It could very well be something completely different that is simply occurring at roughly the same time as the Elves leaving.

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

Yeah :(.  I wish I could figure it out!  This is worse than losing a game to FPS!

Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.

Aha!  I was!  Once I stopped melting things, the crashing ceased.  Sucks though.  Melting loot from sieges was nice boost to my metal industry.  I was melting just fine for a while there.  I wonder what the particular items are that cause the crash.
