I happen to know there is an upright adamantine short sword at Z-level -150 below my fort.

I haven't even breached the caverns yet.

Also, I'm sort of nervous... because there was a cave-in at Z-level -150... around the same area as the sword... I'm sort of scared to breach the caverns now...

This happened to me in my first DF2010 fort as well. There was a cavern collapse on embark on the layer three above the bottom, and my architectural wealth was around 230,000. Needless to say, I got smacked down by goblins (which attack based on fortress wealth) rather quickly...

If you have the crazy high fort value due to the HFS, theres a partial fix for it:

Hit R, highlight the upright sword, then hit t to zoom to it. Then hit f to forbid it. Alternatively you can go into the stocks screen under weapons and forbid it from there.

Forbidding the item removes it from the wealth calculation of the building. And in the case of this particular item, it should remove a LOT of wealth. Mine was worth 136,800.

That lets you reduce the value a bit, but you still get quite a bit of value from architecture. Doing this I went from 190510 to 53708. Still really high for a new fort, but not near as high as it was.
