Well what if the museums were used as a meeting room, and if you have many high value items in the room liasons will pay extra for your trade items, and you could ask for discounts on specific things you are in need of as well. The room could also double as an area for creating good thoughts, but the fact a party could be thrown in a room like that I wouldn't call that room a museum I'd call it something more dwarfvenly like...Grand Hall...

Then of course in the museum then you would have a purpose for a manequin that could wear and display said artifacts.

I like this idea.  Building it from an object might work -- you could have a plaque or something -- then build cabinets or boxes for dwarves to store things in.  It could also be an interactivity zone like a hospital.
