I'm pretty sure those files are the text messages that show up when the related events occur, deleting them will possibly crash your game.

Those are the announcements used when your fortress crumbles.
2 3 and 4 are for siege deaths, abandon, and a third that I can't think of at the moment.
end1 WAS the old 2D HFS timer, which is why it's now missing, as that timer mechanic is long gone.
