Mayor mandates native aluminum "items"
« on: April 09, 2010, 04:13:41 pm »

So this is the first fort that's surviving somewhat in DF2010 for me, and now my mayor has issued a mandate I havn't seen before ( I usually deep-fry mandate-abusers, but I like this dwarf), very non-specific native aluminum "items". So naturally I think anything made of aluminum will work, and forge some crafts for him. But apparently that's not I'd and now I'd like somebody to PLEASE tell me I didn't screw up by smelting the aluminum ore I had so I could make this? He isn't asking for stuff made from the ore, is he?

If it says native, yup - its ore.

This seems like a bug, if I'm not mistaken. It's only native aluminum when it's in walls, and becomes aluminum nuggets after extraction. Thus, he should be asking for aluminum nuggets.

Unless I'm wrong.

Maybe he's preparing for an upcoming macabre mood by creating dwarf parts. :-\

Have you tried smelting some native aluminum into aluminum? That might be what he's after.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

The solution is probably to make rock crafts out of native aluminum ore, which will give you a few chunks of aluminum.

At least they're worth a good amount.

You can turn off economic stones and make rock things out of native ores.

Partially. They do become aluminum nuggets, but if you make crafts or furniture out of them at a mason's shop, they read "native Aluminum [item]", which is what the mayor wanted.

Made it by the skin of my teeth. One hastily constructed mason workshop near a vein in a dangerous area and a locked in mason that almost got eaten by a forgotten beast is all it took...I'm liking you less and less, Urist McMayor! *shakes fist*  >:(

There was a bug in 40d where they would ask for an "item". This was because they would say, want a metal bed, but such a thing cannot exist, so it just substituted the word item instead. On the upside, there was no consequence for ignoring the bugged demand.

Perhaps you are seeing this bug again.
